Only one week remains until the registration deadline for the 2010 SIT Conference. This year's technology conference for students will be Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the new Cortland Elementary School, 370 E. Lexington Avenue, Cortland.
District 428 is hosting a location for the conference for the second year, as one of five sites statewide that will run concurrently. Other sites include: Hinsdale, Normal, Charleston, and Carterville, IL. Nearly one thousand students are expected to participate at the sites statewide.
The conference features students in grades 3-12 who present topics connected to technology subjects in 20 minute sessions. In addition, each site has a keynote speaker on a technology topic of interest to the students. Students attending the Cortland site are especially fortunate to have TWO keynote speakers: Dr. Robert Satcher, Jr, who just completed the STS-129 mission on the Atlantis space shuttle; and Dr. Aaron Parness, a former District 428 student now employed by NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, where he designs robots for missions to Mars. The 2010 SIT Conference has room for only 250 students. The registration deadline is Friday, January 29, 2010. Students are able to register as a presenter or attendee. The registration website is: www.sitconference.org. The cost is $18 per student and includes lunch, snack, and a t-shirt. See the link on the district home page: www.dist428.org for more information and a link to a SIT Conference Resource page (recommended for all attendees).
