On September 27, 2011 the law regarding vaccine requirements for Illinois school children was amended. ALL STUDENTS entering 6th through 12th grade who have not already received a Tdap vaccine are required to receive one Tdap dose regardless of the interval since the last DTaP, DT or Td was given. Students without proof of having the immunization on or before the start of school will be excluded from attending school until such proof is submitted.
What steps can you take to ensure your child entering grades 6th-12th is ready for the first day of school?
- We suggest scheduling an appointment with your physician early, as appointments fill up quick.
- Confirm with your doctor whether your child will need the Tdap (Td is NOT acceptable under the change in law).
