Mrs. Meyer's Message:
Did you know that Jefferson School hosts a Big Brother/Big Sister program right here at our school? This year has been our second successful year of this program. It is a 10-week, after-school opportunity for “Bigs” from DeKalb High School to mentor “Littles” from Jefferson. The Bigs and Littles work and play together through a series of team-building activities. They establish supportive and cooperative relationships.
Our Big Brother/Big Sister program is possible through a collaboration of five agencies:
1. Jefferson identifies the Littles, provides the space and supervision and helps with the planning of the activities.
2. DHS identifies the Bigs and transports them to Jefferson after school.
3. The Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization provides training to our Bigs, determines good partners and helps with the planning and implementation of the activities.
4. The Kishwaukee YMCA helps with the planning and implementation of the activities.
5. The Northern Illinois Food Bank provides healthy snacks for the program.
Tonight, we celebrate our program with the families of the Bigs and Littles. I want to thank all who have been involved to make this program a huge success! In particular, there’s a big shout out to Angie Smith, Jefferson’s Office Assistant, for giving of her time and energies to this program. I look forward to continuing these inter-agency collaborations next year!
Thank you,
Cristy Meyer, Principal
