Welcome to P.B.I.S. at Littlejohn School!
We are excited about a brand new year at Littlejohn, and this year we are continuing our program called P.B.I.S which stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. P.B.I.S. is a proactive approach for creating and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment. The focus of this program is to teach expected behaviors much like we do our academics. The staff teaches and reinforces the expected behaviors so that students always understand what is expected of them. P.B.I.S. provides clear rules for each school setting and has systems in place to reward students when they follow our school expectations. Our school expectations are: Be Ready. Be Respectful. Be Safe. Be Responsible.
Each week students will learn a specific targeted behavior. Teachers will teach this “cool tool” lesson on the first day of the week, and reward and reinforce the specific expectations all week long. Students may receive a “Behavior Buck” from any staff member at school. These bucks can be used to purchase items at the school store, or be saved for future events, school raffles, or bingo games.
As we progress into the school year, we will find students who are in need of stronger behavioral interventions. We have several tier 2 interventions for those students who have more than 2 office referrals in a month’s time. We start with the OWLS program, which is a check-in/check-out program, where students earn daily points based on our school expectations to earn extra behavior bucks. We also will have some groups meeting over lunch time for students to talk about school expectations, as well as adult mentoring.
