Welcome Tyler Families

Greetings Tyler Families,

It is with great pleasure that I write to welcome you and your student(s) to the 2011-2012 school year at Tyler Elementary School.  I hope that your summer has been packed with both fun and relaxation.  How quickly summer concludes and our thoughts turn to eagerly preparing for the commencement of another school year.  This is always one of my favorite times of the year!  I love the excitement each new school year brings.  It is an opportunity to grow and engage in many diverse learning experiences.  Our staff and I are ready to challenge your children intellectually, helping grow them toward independent thinking and problem solving.  We will continue to strive to promote heathly development in all aspects of each student's life.  It is our goal to encourage students to demonstrate the best of themselves every moment of everyday and to make positive contributions to their school and community.  Please know our doors are always open if you have any questions or concerns.  We are here to serve you!

School lunch is served at 12:10 for grades K, 2nd and 5th, and 1st, 3rd and 4th grade students are served at 12:30.  School lunches will cost $2.10 ($0.40 reduced) per day or $10.50 per week.  We use a computerized system called Family Access to facilitate meal purchases, or you can send your check for school meals to the Education Service Center, Attention: Food Service at 901 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115-4411.  You will be required to keep track of the positive balance in the account so that your child/children are able to purchase meals.  If you prefer, payments can also be made with a credit card through Family Access.  Please do not send any cash or checks to Tyler for your child’s breakfast/lunch. As a courtesy a friendly reminder will be sent home with your child when your balance reaches $10.00.  Children may bring in a cold lunch and purchase a carton of milk for $0.40 per day or $2.00 per week if they desire.

As a friendly reminder and consideration, to apply for free or reduced priced meals Household Eligibility Applications are available to those who may have experienced a decrease in household income, an increase in household size, or have become unemployed.  If interested one application per household needs to be filled out, and sent to the school office or the Education Center in care of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.  A new or revised application can be submitted at anytime during the school year.  It is important to remember that Free and Reduced Meal applications must be filled out every year, unless you receive a letter that your child has already been approved for the current year.  If you did not receive a letter for each child in your household, please contact Food Services at 815-754-2162.  Use one application for all of the students in your household.  All information is confidential.  Spanish applications and information is also available.

Arrival and Dismissal Information

It is our desire to ensure the safety of each child at Tyler Elementary; because of this we installed a new security system at our front door. You will have to be buzzed in to enter the building. If students are being picked up, parents will have to wait outside of the front door. Please refrain from parking your vehicle and leaving it unattended in the fire lane immediately outside of the front doors. It forces other drivers to double park and/or drive around your vehicle. This is not safe for our students. If you need to come in to drop off your child due to a tardy/appointment, please park your car on the closest street to field and come to the front door to be buzzed inside. We are also asking that you not park in the handicap spots, unless you have the appropriate documentation to do so. These parking spots are for our families who need special accommodations, and we want to do everything we can to assist them. Failure to comply with any of the above parking laws may result in a ticket from our local police department. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or suggestion, please feel free to contact us. We are here to serve and guarantee the safety of each child.

With Tiger Pride,

Mrs. Mitchell
